The Changing Seasons: October 2016

Autumn has definitely arrived. Colorful leaves on the trees and the ground. Rainy days, cold, chilly, then suddenly a couple of “warm” and sunny days. It’s a beautiful season, but at the same time it means that winter is coming.

Here’s my gallery this month: a couple of the photos are from the last days of September, but most of them from the beginning of October.

V2: My Version 2 this month

In 2012 I shot a photo of Akerselva (Aker River) one early morning. Yesterday I went there again to re-shoot the area, not only that particular place, but several spots along the river. You can never fully recreate a photo and get the same result, because it’s too many random things that you have no control over, but it’s still fun to re-shoot places and compare the shots afterwards. In 2012 I was there early in the morning, yesterday in the afternoon, so obviously the light was different, but also the foliage. Different cameras and optics were used in the two shots.
I’ve added the original photo for comparison.

Summer vacation is over and it was freaking awesome!

Now I’m back at work and haven’t had the time to process all of the photos from this summer yet but, as you can see from my previous post, I’ve posted the ones from the Titanic International Tattoo Convention in Belfast. Still I have a bunch from the North of Norway, plus another bunch from a trip I arranged to the famous Norwegian places: Preikestolen, Kjeragbolten and Trolltunga, to process. This was the first time that I arranged such a trip, so you can say it was pretty rare. Blah, blah, blah, here’s this month’s «The Changing Seasons»:

The Changing Seasons: July 2016

My changing seasons post this month is a scheduled post.

I don’t have many photos from this month (yet) and the ones that I do have is basically just different takes on the same scene. I went nuts on the post-processing, but it was fun and I don’t regret it! Hehe. Hopefully, after the summer, I’ll have plenty of landscape photos and lots of portraits to share with you.

I also had time to create something artistic for the V2 (version 2) part of the challenge this month.

This is a double exposure (post-process) of a nude model that I shot in a studio and a monkey skull I captured at a scientific museum (Yes, I’m a geek that sometimes do “boring stuff” like visiting museums).

I’ve been busy lately and still haven’t visited all your posts from last month. Basically it’s been a mix between a lot of work and a whole lot of nothing. “The Changing Seasons” is a little bit late this month. I messed up the dates, got busy writing on a long post and suddenly the 20th of April had passed already… Oops!

I’ve been playing a lot of guitar this month. Both alone and with other people. There was a jam-session with some couchsurfers earlier this month (you can check it out in one of my previous posts) and I’ve been jamming with an ukulele playing friend of mine. The Changing Seasons: March 2016

Time for another “Changing Seasons” post. If you don’t know this challenge, you can read more about it at the bottom of this post or in the introduction post. Those of you who follow the news and such, are probably aware that it’s March by now. This means brighter & warmer days here in this part of the world.

I haven’t taken a lot of photos in March – I’m still in this kind of hibernating winter mode, but I did manage to get enough photos for a gallery. No exceptional photos, but acceptable results from a photographer that’s been busy hibernating.

The Changing Seasons: February 2016

What a perfect theme for WordPress’ Weekly Photo Challenge this week! Just in time for this post in “The Changing Seasons” challenge that I finished up today!

If you don’t already know about “The Changing Seasons” challenge in this blog, you can read the “guidelines/rules” in the end of this post.  February is here and it’s definitely not my favorite month. I’m not sure if I have a favorite month, but if I do, it must be one of the summer months. I just generally like the summer. I don’t hate February or anything, but since I’m living in the Northern hemisphere, February equals winter time: in other words we’re talking snow, rain, wet, cold, darkness, naked trees, dark forests – you know, all that stuff that probably inspires the makers of black metal music.

Since my last ‘Changing Seasons’ post, I’ve shot exactly 14 photos of Oslo and they basically all look the same since they were shot at the same vantage point and on the same night. I haven’t been out much with my camera lately. Come to think of it I’ve hardly been outside at all (unless you’re counting commuting of course), but every month I have to go out and capture something.

February and winter time is perfect for indoor projects. There was a blogger that posted a photo of a vodka bottle – I can’t remember which blogger it was (at first I thought it was Amy, but it wasn’t. Then I thought maybe Laura…). Anyway, it  was someone who uses the arbitrary retared rollercoaster system (link opens in new window) for measurements, because her bottle was measured in some kind of mathematically weird way. Since I have the same bottle at home and I felt inspired by this blogger, I decided one evening that I should play with it too. You’ll see one of those photos in the gallery. Also, I added one from last weekend’s visit to the tattoo convention in Budapest. Now, before you ask: yes, I actually went all the way to Budapest just to attend a tattoo convention (I realize that it’s kind of geeky/weird, but hey! I love tattoos!). Later I’ll write-up a post about the Budapest convention, complete with photos plus an interview with Hungary’s most talented artist ((which also happens to be probably the world’s most beautiful tattoo artist), but for now I’ll only share this one photo.

What else happened in February? A major thing, for me: a bunch of February’s ago, I was born. Every year that has passed since then, I’ve been around long enough to make another ride around the sun on this circus of a planet. 🙂 That’s why that is one of the things that I’ve always associated with this month. The summer is still far away, but slowly, slowly we’re getting there… (יש תקווה).

What’s this «Changing Seasons» blogging challenge?

«The Changing Seasons 2016» is a blogging challenge with two versions: the original (V1) which is purely photographic and the new version (V2) where you can allow yourself to be more artistic and post a painting, a recipe, a digital manipulation, or simply just one photo that you think represents the month. Anyone with a blog can join this challenge and it’ll run throughout 2016. It doesn’t matter if you couldn’t join the first month(s), late-comers are welcomed. These are the rules, but they’re not written in stone – you can always improvise, mix & match to suit your own liking:

  • Tag your posts with #MonthlyPhotoChallenge and #TheChangingSeasons
  • Each month, post 5-20 photos in a gallery.
  • Don’t use photos from your archive. Only new shots.

Welcome to this challenge that’s called «The Changing Seasons 2016». The Changing Seasons Recap 2015

This is the last post in The Changing Seasons 2015. Michelle just posted her photos from December as well, and as we were writing back and forth in her comment section, I realized that I also had a few photos from December 2015 to share with you.

My December photos were taken when I went out for a shoot with model Thea and her dog Kilo.

In the beginning of this challenge (in January 2015) we had 27 participants (not including me). When February and March came along, we’d reached around 32, but when summer arrived in the Northern Hemisphere, the amount of participants dropped drastically. Now that it’s December 2015 we’re counting 11 participants (still not including me). For various and unknown reasons (time, inspiration, health, shit hit the brain fan, etc, etc,) a lot of people left during the year, but if they want to, they’ll have a chance to do a comeback in 2016 when this challenge continues. If you read the introduction to the 2016 version of the challenge, you’ll notice that there’s two versions & the rules have changed slightly.

I was planning to create a participants gallery with photos from throughout the year, but it turned out to be too time-consuming – that’s why I’ll stick to showing you how the different parts of the world looked like from the participants point of view in January 2015. Not all the participants are included, because some bloggers had deleted their posts and some joined later during the year.

At times, I found it diificult to post something every month, but since I was running this challenge I had to stick to the schedule. Some months I felt that didn’t have enough, or not good enough photos, and one month I nearly forgot all about it (I remebered the evening before). Anyway, that’s what I’ve learned from this challenge: it was more difficult than what I initially thought it would be. The best thing about it is that it kept me going: I had to produce something and I’ve also heard from another participant that this challenge was the only thing that kept her blogging throughout the year. For me that was pretty cool to hear (thanks!).

Anyway, thanks to everyone for participating (also to those that didn’t complete the full year – it was still interesting to get a glimpse from your parts of the world!).
