Resilient Retrospective 2016

Here’s my resilient retrospective post for the last photo challenge I’ll participate in this year. I didn’t shoot all these photos in 2016, but I edited and posted them in 2016.

Skull with curly hair. Model: Magdalena

I’ll admit that this portrait is shot using artificial light. I might also have altered the image slightly using software. If you ever come across a woman looking like this, then quickly head for a new horizon..

Conceptual Photography

It is more about the message of a photo than about what is in the photo. Some artists intend to be clear in their messages, in illustration of their ideas, and some do not care if they will be understood or misinterpreted. – Paula

The Changing Seasons: July 2016

My changing seasons post this month is a scheduled post.

I don’t have many photos from this month (yet) and the ones that I do have is basically just different takes on the same scene. I went nuts on the post-processing, but it was fun and I don’t regret it! Hehe. Hopefully, after the summer, I’ll have plenty of landscape photos and lots of portraits to share with you.

I also had time to create something artistic for the V2 (version 2) part of the challenge this month.

This is a double exposure (post-process) of a nude model that I shot in a studio and a monkey skull I captured at a scientific museum (Yes, I’m a geek that sometimes do “boring stuff” like visiting museums).

What’s this «Changing Seasons» blogging challenge?

«The Changing Seasons 2016» is a blogging challenge with two versions: the original (V1) which is purely photographic and the new version (V2) where you can allow yourself to be more artistic and post a painting, a recipe, a digital manipulation, or simply just one photo that you think represents the month. Anyone with a blog can join this challenge and it’ll run throughout 2016. It doesn’t matter if you couldn’t join the first month(s), late-comers are welcomed. These are the rules, but they’re not written in stone – you can always improvise, mix & match to suit your own liking:

These are the rules for Version 1 (The Changing Seasons V1):

  • Tag your posts with #MonthlyPhotoChallenge and #TheChangingSeasons
  • Each month, post 5-20 photos in a gallery.
  • Don’t use photos from your archive. Only new shots.

These are the rules for Version 2 (The Changing Seasons V2):

  • Tag your posts with #MonthlyPhotoChallenge and #TheChangingSeasons
  • Each month, post one photo (recipe, painting, drawing, whatever) that represents your interpretation of the month.
  • Don’t use archive stuff. Only new material!

Night Shots From Bangkok 1:4

Some night shots, street photography, a portrait of Rogue Seraphim, plus some photos from a shop in Bangkok. Random Bangkok stuff.

It has been hectic lately, so I haven’t blogged much. Hope you’re all having a great time and that you enjoyed my little gallery from Bangkok.
I’m glad to say that I’ll be returning to Bangkok in 2017.

Photo shoot with Rogue

When I visited Bangkok, I made sure to arrange a tiny gathering that consisted of myself, the local model Rogue Seraphim, make-up artist Adia Braun, Adia’s husband and their kid. Naturally I’ve only captured the model on these photos:

I also asked permission from the hotel to use their roof top pool as a location to shoot some photos, but since I didn’t get their permission I’m not gonna do any free advertising for the hotel in this blog or anywhere else. In other words: these photos were shot at some location, somewhere in Bangkok.

Working with a model & a dog

Had a couple of photos on print today: they were in a pet-related advertising paper that was published with the national, Norwegian newspaper Dagbladet.

Last Sunday I met up with model Thea and her dog Kilo for a photo shoot downtown. Here’s the main photo:

Thea & Kilo

Thea & Kilo. Kilo is a mix between American Bulldog, Rottweiler, Staffordshire Bull Terrier and Sighthound.

To flash or not to flash?
I haven’t worked with dogs as models before, so this was the first time for me. Before leaving home I was afraid that a flash might scare the young dog – he’s only one year old – so I didn’t bring one. I could have needed a flash in the semi-poor lighting conditions downtown. I did bring a reflector though, but the artificial light wasn’t really strong enough to be reflected. Lesson learned? bring a flash next time.

Besides, Thea, the model and dog owner, assured me that Kilo wouldn’t be scared of the flash. Because of his young age Kilo was easily distracted and a flash would have helped to freeze the moment, eliminating blur.
I definitely learned a lot from this shoot.

Thanks Thea & Kilo!

Nude Portraits: Magda

There’s some nudity in this post. I know that nudity bothers some people because of their superstitions or work environment. In that case I suggest that you read a garden blog, a cat-blog or something else instead. (Fair warning given).

Portraits: Magdalena Jewuła

Back in June, I promised you that you’d see more of Magdalena Jewuła. I’m the kind of man who likes to keep his promises (well, probably not all of them –  but at least I always try to keep them), so here she is again: the wonderful Magdalena Jewuła.

Portraits: Paulina

I have plenty of portraits of beautiful models and it’s a shame (no, it’s a sin!), to let them gather dust on the hard disk. That’s why I decided to post portraits for the next coming posts in this blog.

Instead of posting them one by one, I’ve divided them into models. First one up is (the title kind of revealed it already) Paulina. I’ll share more photos of her later, but for now enjoy these two shots:

Double exposures plus some street

Enjoy these double exposures plus some street photography. I hope you’ve had a great weekend. It’s almost finished now, but it will return in less than a week.

Magdalena Jewuła as Mountain Lion. Mountain Lion photo by Brad Wilson. Composite by CardinalGuzman.wordpress.com

This is a composite image that I made based on one of Brad Wilson’s photos of a mountain lion. If you don’t know his work, I suggest that you check out Brad Wilson’s studio portraits of wild animals. He’s got some truly brilliant photos. The human element here is a studio portrait that I shot of the model Magdalena Jewuła. The composite image is inspired by a work of the Italian experimental photographer Wanda Wulz (1903 – 1984).
I guess you can say that Wanda Wulz is my muse when it comes to composite images of felines and people.

See my previous Wanda Wulz inspired images, more muse related stuff and visit Brad Wilson’s website:

Photo Session with Magda

Here’s the first shot I’ll share with you of Magda. I’ll share some more when I have processed them, but I have a lot of photos to process and not so much time… Magda is an amazing model to work with. She’s professional and she has a magic sparkle in her eyes.

Portraits of Monika & Pamela

Model photography is on my schedule this coming weekend and I’m really looking forward to try out the new cameras in a different setting than usual. I thought I’d share a few model photos with you. These were shot with my ‘old camera’ two years ago. If your boss/management is retarded, one of these shots is probably NSFW and if it’s so, I suggest that you immediately change your job or even better: fire your boss/management!

On the way avant-garde appeared

I was on the way home after a long day of continuous shooting downtown, taking photos for my monthly photo challenge with a new camera that I had to learn, when I came across Nina and her friend. They were filming for an art project they had at Strykejernet (an art school in Oslo).

Unfortunately I didn’t catch the name of the girl who was filming, but the name of the model was Nina. They didn’t mind me taking some shots, so I hung around and took some photos while they were filming. I came home with a bunch of photos that day (I’ve deleted a lot but I still have 408 photos shot on that same day).

Avant-garde, sci-fi scene.

An avant-garde, sci-fi scene.

When I was looking through the shots with Nina, I decided to merge these two photos into one. I’m pleased with the final result and I think it has some sci-fi, avant-garde feeling to it.

Enjoy this song by King Missile: “Sensitive Artist”.

“Sensitive Artist” by John S Hall (King Missile)
From the album King Missile (Dog Fly Religion)* ‎– Fluting On The Hump

I am a sensitive artist.
Nobody understands me because I am so deep.
In my work I make allusions to books that nobody else has read,
Music that nobody else has heard,
And art that nobody else has seen.
I can’t help it
Because I am so much more intelligent
And well-rounded
Than everyone who surrounds me.

I stopped watching tv when I was six months old
Because it was so boring and stupid
And started reading books
And going to recitals
And art galleries.
I don’t go to recitals anymore
Because my hearing is too sensitive
And I don’t go to art galleries anymore
Because there are people there
And I can’t deal with people
Because they don’t understand me.

I stay at home
Reading books that are beneath me,
And working on my work,
Which no one understands

I am sensitive…
I am a sensitive artist…
