What kind of a winter is this? There’s no snow and it’s very mild. Unfortunately there’s no proper ice for ice skating either.

New Years Eve 2019-2020. Oslo.
Here’s my gallery this month: a couple of the photos are from the last days of September, but most of them from the beginning of October.
In 2012 I shot a photo of Akerselva (Aker River) one early morning. Yesterday I went there again to re-shoot the area, not only that particular place, but several spots along the river. You can never fully recreate a photo and get the same result, because it’s too many random things that you have no control over, but it’s still fun to re-shoot places and compare the shots afterwards. In 2012 I was there early in the morning, yesterday in the afternoon, so obviously the light was different, but also the foliage. Different cameras and optics were used in the two shots.
I’ve added the original photo for comparison.
All the photos from yesterday’s photo-walk is uploaded to my Flickr account, so make sure to check out the gallery there.
Here’s another one for comparison, it was taken next to Hønse Lovisas Hus:
There’s a lot of Akerselva photos in the Flickr gallery, plus some videos from the opening of the local skate park.
«The Changing Seasons 2016» is a blogging challenge with two versions: the original (V1) which is purely photographic and the new version (V2) where you can allow yourself to be more artistic and post a painting, a recipe, a digital manipulation, or simply just one photo that you think represents the month. Anyone with a blog can join this challenge and it’ll run throughout 2017.
It doesn’t matter if you couldn’t join the first month(s), late-comers are welcomed.
These are the rules, but they’re not written in stone – you can always improvise, mix & match to suit your own liking:

There’s not much to say about these photos. I experimented with some hdr water photos, some random night shots and street art. They were all shot in, or on the way to, Belfast.
I don’t have many photos from this month (yet) and the ones that I do have is basically just different takes on the same scene. I went nuts on the post-processing, but it was fun and I don’t regret it! Hehe. Hopefully, after the summer, I’ll have plenty of landscape photos and lots of portraits to share with you.
I also had time to create something artistic for the V2 (version 2) part of the challenge this month.
This is a double exposure (post-process) of a nude model that I shot in a studio and a monkey skull I captured at a scientific museum (Yes, I’m a geek that sometimes do “boring stuff” like visiting museums).

One version is with my tweakings using Photoshop, plus further editing in Lightroom. The other version is basically the automated HDR version I got using Lightroom, with only minor adjustments.

The Vltava river in Praha.
From Wikipedia:
The Vltava (IPA: /vəlˈtɑvə/; Czech pronunciation: [ˈvl̩tava]; German: Moldau, IPA: [ˈmɔldaʊ]) is the longest river within the Czech Republic, running southeast along the Bohemian Forest and then north across Bohemia, through Český Krumlov, České Budějovice and Prague, and finally merging with the Elbe at Mělník. It is commonly referred to as the Czech national river.
I’ve been busy lately and still haven’t visited all your posts from last month. Basically it’s been a mix between a lot of work and a whole lot of nothing. Doing nothing in particular also takes a lot of time. The latest news is that a few days ago I got the following message in my inbox on Instagram: @cguzmanofficial
«Hi Cardinal!
We freaked out with your Instagram feed 🙂
Most probably you already know it, but let us tell you how fantastic is your sense of art. We see hundreds of accounts each month, and yours is something apart.
We can’t believe that you are not followed by thousands, but that’s one of the mysteries of social media…
Anyhow, we are here to back you :D. Honestly, we don’t follow many people, but we think you really deserve it»
Needless to say, but that was an awesome message to find in the inbox.
Anyway, enough blah, blah, blah. Here’s my V1 gallery for «The Changing Seasons». I might, or I might not, post V2 later…

The 17th of May is Norway’s constitution day, a jubilee that is celebrated with children’s parades. That’s why my V2 photo this month is a picture from the parade.

If you don’t already know about “The Changing Seasons” challenge in this blog, you can read the “guidelines/rules” in the end of this post. February is here and it’s definitely not my favorite month. I’m not sure if I have a favorite month, but if I do, it must be one of the summer months. I just generally like the summer. I don’t hate February or anything, but since I’m living in the Northern hemisphere, February equals winter time: in other words we’re talking snow, rain, wet, cold, darkness, naked trees, dark forests – you know, all that stuff that probably inspires the makers of black metal music.
Since my last ‘Changing Seasons’ post, I’ve shot exactly 14 photos of Oslo and they basically all look the same since they were shot at the same vantage point and on the same night. I haven’t been out much with my camera lately. Come to think of it I’ve hardly been outside at all (unless you’re counting commuting of course), but every month I have to go out and capture something.
February and winter time is perfect for indoor projects. There was a blogger that posted a photo of a vodka bottle – I can’t remember which blogger it was (at first I thought it was Amy, but it wasn’t. Then I thought maybe Laura…). Anyway, it was someone who uses the arbitrary retared rollercoaster system (link opens in new window) for measurements, because her bottle was measured in some kind of mathematically weird way. Since I have the same bottle at home and I felt inspired by this blogger, I decided one evening that I should play with it too. You’ll see one of those photos in the gallery. Also, I added one from last weekend’s visit to the tattoo convention in Budapest. Now, before you ask: yes, I actually went all the way to Budapest just to attend a tattoo convention (I realize that it’s kind of geeky/weird, but hey! I love tattoos!). Later I’ll write-up a post about the Budapest convention, complete with photos plus an interview with Hungary’s most talented artist ((which also happens to be probably the world’s most beautiful tattoo artist), but for now I’ll only share this one photo.
I have two more photos from this event in my other blog if you’re interested: https://artishorseshit.wordpress.com/2016/02/17/balogh-daniels-photos-from-budapest-tattoo-convention/
What else happened in February? A major thing, for me: a bunch of February’s ago, I was born. Every year that has passed since then, I’ve been around long enough to make another ride around the sun on this circus of a planet. 🙂 That’s why that is one of the things that I’ve always associated with this month. The summer is still far away, but slowly, slowly we’re getting there… (יש תקווה).
Enough random blah, blah and scattered thoughts. This is my V2 post for February:
For the changing seasons V1, I have this tiny gallery. The photo of the skull is actually more of a V2 photo, but who cares? 🙂

In these two shots I’ve played with different looks: one outrageous, almost HDR looking photo. The other a bit more toned down, but still sparkling. Personally I prefer the slightly toned down version, but I know that a lot of people like pictures that are highly saturated. Especially when it comes to night photography.

If you want to find out more about the Barcode area, you ‘ll find info on Wikipedia about the style and the controversies:
Some are enthusiastic about the fresh architecture, the “champagne apartments,” and the unmatched opportunity to reshape the urban landscape and relieve pressure on a rapidly growing city without diminishing existing green space. However, there has been widespread criticism of the heights and designs of the Barcode buildings, both from architects and from citizens of Oslo. The Barcode has been described as a barrier between the fjord and the rest of the city that will destroy Oslo’s character as an open, low-rise city with a lot of green space and cast a permanent shadow on adjacent neighborhoods for the benefit of a rich few. I loved this view and wanted to share another panoramic photo of Ålesund. This was shot earlier this summer with my Canon Ixus 130. If you missed my previous post, it’s here: https://cardinalguzman.wordpress.com/2014/07/09/a-trip-to-alesund-norway/
The theme for WordPress’ Weekly Photo Challenge this week is «containers». I chose to post these containers that has people in them.
It’s been quiet in this blog lately. I had to finish up a whole lot of stuff at work before I could start my vacation and then we had a family member for a visit. We rented a car and drove to Ålesund – a city in the North Western part of Norway. It was a very long drive, but the city and the area was beautiful & spectacular, so it was worth it!
I hope you’re all having a great summer! More photos from Ålesund and the surrounding area will be posted later.

My blogger friend Paula suggested that I should make a post with my best photos of 2013 – one for each month. I found it difficult to pick out the best photos of the ones I posted in 2013, but I gave it a go.
Some of the months were easy, because I didn’t have that many photos to choose from, while other were more difficult. For the most difficult ones I chose to add a “runner up photo”. Most of these photos were shot in 2013. Some of them are older, but they were all posted in 2013.
It’s with great joy I present you this gallery:
I know you probably won’t sift through this endless list of links, but for those few who are specially interested – the photos are from these following posts:

I love it when I’m travelling and have the freedom to walk around, take photos and not care about the boring day-to-day life and the pointless job.
Not a care in the world!
