Night Church

Another photo that I’ve saved as draft. This one is from Açores, São Miguel, Portugal – a beautiful island in the archipelago Açores:

Spring time in Oslo

Finally the holidays have arrived and with it came the spring,  or at least a small taste of it. We went for a walk yesterday and, as always, I brought my camera.

Camera = Bread?

One evening when I crossed this bridge, I wanted to take a photo. As soon as the ducks saw me, they started quacking and came towards me.

Hey! This guy has a camera. He probably has bread too!

Sorry about the quality: the photo is shot with my Canon Ixus 130 pocket camera, which unfortunately creates a lot of noise on high ISO (ISO-500 in this example).

Five versions of Kunsthall Oslo

My friend said that he always used Photomatix Pro for his HDR-photos, so I decided to try it out. Normally I use Photoshop for all my image editing and occasionally Adobe Lightroom. I decided to make 4 different versions of the same 3 bracketed photos and post one of the original photos, so that you (and I) can compare.

I’m new to Photomarix Pro, so the result probably looks different from it would if I were familiar with the software. First the original photo and at the end there’s a gallery for easy maneuvering:

Original photo. I've only done some small adjustments to the raw file.

Sørenga / Bjørvika II

Here’s a gallery of recent photos from Oslo.

On the photos you’ll see the Eastside of the Opera house (with tiny red slave barracks), the Bjørvika area, Sørenga and the financial district they’ve named The Barcode.

Delicate Oslo

Delicate Oslo? Delicate is an adjective. If you look up the word at thesaurus.com, you’ll find that the definition of the word is: «dainty, weak»

When I shot this photo the chimneys caught my attention. It looks a bit like they fill up the sky with whatever it is that they’re spewing out.

Synonyms for ‘delicate’ can be:  aerial, balmy, breakable, choice, delectable, delicious, delightful, elegant, ethereal, exquisite, faint, filmy, fine, fine-grained, finespun, flimsy, fracturable, fragile, frail, frangible, gauzy, gentle, gossamery, graceful, hairline, mild, muted, nice, pale, pastel, rare, recherché, select, shatterable, shattery, slight, soft, subdued, subtle, superior, tender.

So, which one of these synonyms suits Oslo? I guess an eclectic mix.

Green Reflections in the Water

The theme for the Weekly Photo Challenge is green. Sara Rosso over at WordPress is always encouraging people to come up with new posts, which I think is great because after all it’s called a photo challenge (with emphasis on the word challenge). Where’s the challenge in posting a link to your old post like many bloggers tend to do?

Anyway, this time I didn’t even look in my catalog for a “green” photo, but went out and took some new photos. I went looking for something green, or something that could be interpreted as green, and here are the results:

Weekly Photo Challenge: Renewal 2

I just posted a photo for the Weekly Photo Challenge theme ‘renewal’ earlier tonight, but in the spirit of the challenge I went and ‘renewed myself’ by taking some fresh shots. I’ve taken multiple light trail shots of the train earlier, but this time I tried out a new, elevated angle.

What images does Renewal conjure for you? Get creative. Think beyond the usual images (a sunrise, a birth). – Cheri Lucas, WordPress

Here’s two of them, fresh out of the camera:

Moon, train and light trails

Captured these trains passing by the other night.

Light trails from two trains passing by.

Light trails from 3 trains passing by.

I like shooting long-exposure photos and capture light trails like this. The autumn has started and this is the perfect season for this kind of photography, because I don’t have to stay up all night (or get up in the middle of the night) in order to catch the perfect light (or shall I say darkness?) conditions.
