Israel 1970′s: Yom Hazikaron

Today was Remebrance Day in Israel – a great opportunity for me to show you these retro photos in my series: 1970’s Israel. These are photos are (obviously) old scans from soldiers in the Israeli Defence Forces: Tzahal.

Yom Hazikaron (in full Yom Hazikaron l’Chalalei Ma’arachot Yisrael ul’Nifgaei Peulot Ha’eivah Hebrew: יום הזיכרון לחללי מערכות ישראל ולנפגעי פעולות האיבה‎; lit. “Day of Remembrance for the Fallen Soldiers of Israel and Victims of Terrorism”)[1] is Israel’s official Memorial Day,[2] enacted into law in 1963.[3] While Yom Hazikaron has been traditionally dedicated to fallen soldiers, commemoration has now been extended to civilian victims of political violence,[4] Palestinian political violence,[5] and terrorism in general.[6] – Wikipedia
