Gamlebyen & Trains

More photos from Gamlebyen: I enjoy shooting in the morning, during sunset and in the night time. That’s when the lights are best. Daily Prompt: I originally created this post as a response to a discussion over at Leanne Cole’s blog, where the theme was “trying the same again” and we were talking about […]

Gamlebyen – Then & Now: Geitabru

«In a new post created for this challenge, share a picture that reveals your NEIGHBORHOOD.» Those of you who follow this blog already know that I’ve been working on a series of posts from my neighborhood called «Gamlebyen: Then & Now». This will be my fourth post and I’ll show some images of a bridge […]

Gamlebyen – Then & Now: Oslo Hospital 2

Another post from Oslo Hospital – Dollhuset for Afsindige. Like the previous one this one’s also from the websites of Oslo City Archives and the original photo was shot in 1900 by an unknown photographer (most likely the same one).  You can see the area around Gamlebyen Kirke, with the cemetary on the left and […]

Gamlebyen – Then & Now: Oslo Hospital

Here’s my second post in the «Gamlebyen – Then & Now» series. Like the previous one this one’s also from the websites of Oslo City Archives. The original photo was shot in 1900 by an unknown photographer.  You can see the area around Gamlebyen Kirke, with the cemetary on the left and Oslo Hospital og […]

Gamlebyen Skole

Gamlebyen Skole is a primary school in the borough of Gamle Oslo (old Oslo). The school was founded in 1881 under the name Oslo Skole and then consisted of a 3 storey building. In the early 1990’s the school was completely renovated and reopened in 1994. Today the school is home to about 250 pupils […]

Gamlebyen – Then & Now

Once there was this guy from Amsterdam named R. C. Voogel who took a photo of a street in my neighborhood. I don’t know who he was, what he was doing there or what he found so interesting about this neighborhood. As you can see from the photo it’s an ordinary neighborhood, where mostly ordinary […]

The Changing Seasons Recap 2016

One of the few rules for «The Changing Seasons» is “Don’t use photos from your archive. Only new shots.” Well, I’m breaking that rule, but since this is a recap it makes sense… Those of you that have followed me through 2016 (thanks for following!), have seen these shots already, but I think it’s appropriate […]

The Local Skatepark

Gamlebyen Sport & Fritid is the local skatepark. They held an opening show some weeks ago. It was an official opening for the playground and new skateboard area for kids. A skateboard contest for adults were also held. Check out my Flickr gallery for more photos and some short clips from this event:

The Changing Seasons: September 2016

100% boredom as usual: Last month I had the privilege to exclaim “Summer vacation is over and it was freaking awesome!”. This month I can reveal that the autumn is here and that it has been extremely average. Absolutely nothing exciting has happened in the month that has passed. You can’t win every time. Here’s […]

Frank Znort Quartet

This weekend a lovely couple from Prague came for a visit. On Sunday I took them to see Frank Znort Quartet play live at Blå. Every Sunday at around 16:00, they play an acoustic set outside the bar: “Frank Znort Quartet (FZQ) is a jazz / punk big band from Oslo. They are known to […]

Barcode 0904

The old city vs the new. Quite a contrast. EDIT: Upon posting I received a message that this is the 500th post in this blog. I should have planned something spectacular for post #500, but it took me by surprise. Now you’ll have to wait ’till post #1000 to hopefully see something spectacular 🙂

My Best Photos 2013?

My blogger friend Paula suggested that I should make a post with my best photos of 2013 – one for each month. I found it difficult to pick out the best photos of the ones I posted in 2013, but I gave it a go.  Some of the months were easy, because I didn’t have that […]

Two Years of ‘Quality’

Today in my notifications that we bloggers get from WordPress, it said: «Happy Anniversary with! You registered on 2 years ago!». Cool. I wasn’t aware that I had a ‘birthday’. Ever since I started this blog I’ve tried to live up to my motto: “quality” blogging since August 2011

Weekly Photo Challenge: Culture (Clash)

The theme for WordPress’ Weekly Photo Challenge this week is: Culture.  I choose to showcase these recent photos from a culture clash that took place in Oslo. The gypsies have illegally occupied a building called Borgen in Gamlebyen, Oslo. This building is going to be demolished because it’s in the way of a new train […]

More from yesterdays demonstration

Yesterday there was a protest in Gamlebyen, Oslo. Some people were protesting against Islam, while some other people were protesting against people protesting against Islam. Here’s some more info, a gallery and a video clip. Side#1 (The Anti-Muslims): Claim that muslims are taking over Europe. Believes that most muslims are extremists that hate non-believers. Uses […]

Police Horses in Snow

Went to capture some photos at a protest demonstration in Gamlebyen, Oslo today. The police were there and they’d put on their riot gear and brought their horses, but the protest was conducted without any violent episodes. After a couple of hours the protesters returned to their homes, which was very nice for all the […]

Pictures from the historical Old City of Oslo

Today I got up early to shoot some photos in a neighbourhood in Oslo called Gamlebyen (meaning: the Old City). Those of you that have followed this blog for a while might recognize the park with the lake in it? Yes, it’s the same place that I went ice skating last winter. The water is […]

The blades are sharpened

Yes, the blades are sharpened and ready for action. All that needs to be done now, is to wait for the cold and the ice to come sailing over the northern hemisphere. As soon as both of them have arrived it’s off to the nearest skating rink or park to indulge in the enchanting joys […]
