I’m working on some new portrait projects this weekend. Here’s a self-portrait/composite image that I made on Thursday.
Five Photos / Five Stories – Black & White Challenge:
This is a long exposure combined with the teeth from a skull that I photographed at a museum, plus some random this & that effects. I’m probably offline when this is posted (it’s a scheduled post), but I’ll be back after the weekend. It’s easier to focus and think creatively without electronic devices that are beeping, buzzing, desperately seeking attention and acting out like your friend did at that party when he was on a mixture of amphetamine, ecstasy & booze… (True story. You know who you are. No names mentioned).
“those who escape hell
however
never talk about
it
and nothing much
bothers them
after
that.”
― Charles Bukowski
- Miz Rocket challenged me to a five photos / five stories black and white challenge. This has been the third out of five posts.
- These are the rules of this challenge:
1) To post a black & white photo every day for 5 days.
2) To write a story to accompany your photo for 5 days (this can be fiction or non-fiction, a page, a paragraph or a poem).
3) To nominate a different person each day.
I’m not a big fan of rules, so instead of nominating someone I commandeth thy to visit Andy’s Dark Side: andytownend.com/2015/06/11/dark-side-thursday-four/
This post is dedicated to Sir Christopher Frank Carandini Lee (27 May 1922 – 7 June 2015).
Cool and creepy self portrait, Cardinal. And thanks for the mention. 🙂
It’s always nice to spread the word of such a great meeting place as strataoftheself! I have discovered so many blogs via your project, so thanks to you for running SOTS and for posting my stuff there.
Much obliged.
Thank you. I really appreciate that as I spend a lot of time doing this. Just as well I enjoy it! 🙂
Thank you for this entry…
…the cool portrait , first of all; then the quote, incredibly true and realistic , and then the dedication to Christopher Lee , make this post unique and beautiful!
Thank you. He was a great actor.
Superb art.
Tusen takk!
A lovely work of art, and a touching dedication too. It looks menacing, sort of giving me the “you better watch out” vibe. Well done with all the effects, it all looks natural to the eye to me. Amazing the museum let you photograph their collection.
Always great to get away from buzzing and beeping technology. People can wait.
It’s cool that they let you photograph there. I can’t actually remember if they let you, or if I just did it anyway, but I should go back there and take some more photos of that skull from different positions. It’s behind a glass, so reflections is a problem…
Good luck with taking shots of the skull again if you go back. I’m sure you have some skills and tricks up your sleeve…have a good week.
I think of cup of coffee with a friend and a smoke would be a nice way to finish.
I’m thinking that a fantastic fuck would have been a great way to finish. 😀
That’s a prescription for a good night’s sleep.
The best sleeping medicine ever invented.
Creepy and very cool CG.
Takker og bukker Desley.
I think I like that. I’m translating.
Lucile tells me that you said “thanks goats Desley”
So thanks and goats. Awesome. I’ve never been thanked in goats before. Love it!! X
Heheh. Thanks and goats? 😀
It means thanks and bows. Google translate is hilarious sometimes.
LOL it sure is. 😆
Very moody self-portrait, and I like the foreshortening you’ve relied on with the lens positioned high in order to broaden your forehead and narrow your chin.
The surrounding darkness is really spectacular. You know I like to see that.
A bright background would have ruined the atmosphere in this photo. Thanks for noticing the shooting angle, you’re always observant.
I love the post, and then… the dedication.
Thanks Jza. He was a great actor.
Very creepy. It’s like CGI — in black and white.
I don’t know CGI, but thanks 🙂
This will haunt me 🙂 Hope your weekend is the way you like it.
Good, good, I love to haunt people! 😀
The weekend was interesting, fun, exhausting and fantastic. So much better than hanging around at home. Clubs, night life, photography,
sleep, models, partying, bars, long days of shooting and long nights of everything else.I’m still recovering.
Love the image and the dedication. Can’t wait to see what darkly beautiful creation emerges from your silent weekend.
I’m not sure if you’ll see a lot of dark stuff from this weekend, but I can promise you a lot of beauty!
I love the Bukowski quote and that’s a very creepy photo composition. The two go well together.
Bukowski is, without a doubt, my favorite writer.
Nicely unsettling, and very memorable/ haunting.
Unsettling & haunting. I’m like a horrible cancer cell. 😀
A man’s got to have a purpose in life. 🙂
Hehe, that’s true Richard.
Great great work!!
Ha en fin Söndag!
Tusen takk Malin. Søndagen var meget bra og innholdsrik! Håper du hadde en flott helg også.
An excellent slice of darkness, you have a unique and challenging style and execute it so well, thank you for contributing to http://andytownend.com/category/writing/dark-side-thursday/
I can’t promise that I have some new stuff for next Thursday, but if I have you know that I’ll share it!
Any time and thanks again!
The details are uncanny! Errr, sorry, kinda like a reptile skin, eh? The eyes got me … looks real real awesome … esp. the detailed moisture on the sides. Extra Cool Art!
Thank you Senõr Rommel. I was also thinking that it looked a bit like a reptile. I appreciate your feedback.
it’s creepy 😀 but very creative too… how did you make the eyes like that, is this the long exposure? wow…
Expertly spotted Alexandra! It’s the long exposure. Kudos to you!
