Furuset Mosque

Furuset Moske: This mosque is located at Furuset in Oslo. If you’re arriving Norway via Norway’s main airport, Gardermoen, and take the airport shuttle bus or a rental car from there towards Oslo, this building is probably one of the first building that you’ll notice.

This is the largest mosque in the Nordic countries and it can hold 4500 persons. The official name is Bait-un-Nasr mosque and it belongs to the congregation Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat Norway.

Here’s how it looks like from the road (photos shot while passing by in a car):

  2. Great shots, CG! It is very interesting to see the largest mosque in the Nordic countries. Thank you for the info too 🙂

  3. Wow, that’s big … and conspicuous! I don’t know how many they have in Sweden, or how large they are, but I don’t expect them to be far behind, considering…….

  4. I live in such a “churchy” area. There isn’t even a synagogue within 20 miles, much less a mosque. I believe there’s a small one (maybe two?) in Worcester and no doubt a couple in Providence. And of course, Boston. But not in our valley. Here, you can pick your flavor of Christianity, but if you aren’t Christian, you’d better have a dependable car. I don’t know if people are racist, but they are certainly insular and out of touch with the rest of the world. Immigrants don’t come to the valley … probably because there’s no work. 100 years ago was the end of employment in the valley, the last years of the mill towns, before mills went south where the cotton was grown. Now, the mills have gone to India — where the cotton grows.

    • They come here. There’s not a lot of work here either, but we have a welfare system that steals money from the workers, while giving it away to freeloaders.
Makes you want to quit work really. Why bother contributing to the downfall?
