In my entry for Paula’s Thursday Challenge this week, I’ve tried a technique called focus stacking.
Focus stacking is a digital image processing technique which combines multiple images taken at different focus distances to give a resulting image with a greater depth of field (DOF) than any of the individual source images. Wikipedia
I’ll probably play around more with focus stacking later and perhaps even create a tutorial. You can find Paula’s post by clicking this image:
This is one photo with great clarity, Cardinal. I like it. It’s very warm and it looks as if I’m looking through a window. Love your blog for how you show us around your neighbourhood, and for photos and photo techniques too. Hope all is well so far this spring for you 🙂
Thanks Mabel. Yesterday it was spring, but today it’s winter again!

Max, this is wonderful. I love the light, the colours and focus of course. I used focus stacking on my pineapple pic and two orchid photos 🙂
Thank you very much Paula. This was my first, and so far only, attempt at focus stacking. I like the result, so I’ll probably try it out some more later on.
🙂
Google translator says that your photos is titled Mom’s house plants?
Google translator is onto something, but “Plants at mom’s house” would be the correct translation.
Takk 🙂
Very interesting. Slightly vertiginous.
Thanks for teaching me a new English word Richard!
I learn something new everyday!!
Me too. Today I’ve learned the word vertiginous.
Thankfully that’s not something I normally suffer from 🙂
It certainly makes for an interesting composition, Cardinal. How many images did you combine to achieve this fascinating effect? I feel utterly boring 😦
Thanks Jo. I think it was 5 photos, but I made it more than a year ago so I can’t remember exactly.
Interesting…beyond me but interesting.
Thanks Patricia.
This is so interesting !! I wait for the tutorials 🙂
I’ll see if I can make one later. I’ll put it on my never ending bucket list.
Take your time 😀
My Hebrew is pretty rusty (and it was never all that great in the first place) but did I read it right that this is a plant (I didn’t recognize the name of it) at your mother’s house? It’s a lovely succulent and a technique that’s new and interesting to me. I’ll be most curious to hear more about how you do it. I’m expecting a tripod to be involved.
My Hebrew is getting rusty too. It’s deteriorating quickly if you don’t pratice it often enough (which I don’t), but you’re right: the title of the post is “Plants at mom’s house”.
You’re also right about the tripod: in order to focus stack images, you need several photos shot from the same camera position.
No tengo ni idea de lo que dices al explicar como has hecho la foto, pero me gusta.
Saludos.
Hjertelig takk Viaja. Hilsener fra Norge!
Takk også Cardinal .
God påske Week !
that is nice 🙂
Does it require additional image editing software?
I’ve used Photoshop. Probably there’s other software that can do the same.
Ha’im ze ha ima shelcha?
Technically speaking it’s my ex-wife’s mom’s place, but I still call her Ima.
Great depth in this shot Cardinal.
