Funny that you should ask that: yes, we ate the chicken and we got food poisoned. A lot of Arabs doesn’t seem to have any knowledge on the importance of hygiene when it comes to handling and preparing food.
Lol, same was in Yemen, but they heat it quite well. Besides, in some places one can eat of off the floor 🙂 (not many, don’t try this away, maybe just at home)
You’ve been in Yemen? Cool. Do you have any photos from there? They have a special architecture.
At least the chicken looks like a chicken and may have had some quality of life before its death, unlike the poor chickens in this video from Animals Australia:
I think this needs to be seen but it’s very distressing. It made me cry. I hate the way most people treat other animals.
That’s a horrible video. Thanks for sharing this Ashley.
The chicken industry (and the salmon industry too) is disgusting. Luckily most chickens live under better conditions than the ones in the video you posted, but even the ones that have “decent” lives, is being fed antibiotics and growth hormones.
Thanks Mabel. I don’t think that the chicken paid much attention to me either. She was probably more worried about being slaughtered and/or being caged.
Her face says it all.
Yes, it does. She looks a bit shocked!
Raw, very…and tells the story out loud…
Powerful shots – to say the least.
Thank you Ese, I agree that they’re powerful, raw and tells the story. There’s no happy ending for the chicken in this story…
Like “get me out of here!”. That’s a powerful story told in two images.
Thanks!
I’m reading that expression as terror-struck. Did you get invited back there?
We were just visiting the place for a couple of days, so we didn’t return to the chicken salesman.
What happened next Max? did you eat the chicken? Well, this chicken never will cross the road for sure 🙂 Raw indeed

Well, chicken food poisoning is world wide a hygiene issue!
That’s true, but in Jordan they used the floor as working space when preparing the food…

Poor chickens. Shock and fright all in that chicken’s face. Don’t think it noticed you there. But great capture, and great short story.

I definitely got the message. Amazing the stories photos can tell.
Yes it is. Thanks Lulu.
Such a sad and frightened face. I won’t eat chicken tonight……maybe tomorrow though. 🙂
Chickens are tasty!
Perfect juxtaposition, Cardinal.
