Enjoy these photos from the aquarium, or the seafood museum like I call it, in Ålesund, Norway.
Atlanterhavsparken is the official name and it’s one of the largest saltwater-aquariums in northern Europe.

You have quite some scary creatures in front of your lens. I hope there was an other thicker glass in between. I like the photo with the little boy. It looks like he is standing under water and the fish are swimming above the water line. 🙂
Thanks Erwin. Yes, the glass walls were thick. The little boy was ecstatic when he saw the fishes!
Reblogged this on Oyia Brown.
These look really sharp in B/W. I’m going to have to try that. Every time I’ve ever photographed fish in any aquarium I have always shot for vivid colour.
Thanks. When I was doing the post-processing I thought that they looked better as B&W, so I went for that look. It was my first B&W aquarium shoot too.
what fun!
Yeah, I love places like that.
that last fish couple looks angry, hope they loved u back!
Those are called Gråsteinbit in Norwegian (Grey Stone Bite directly translated). The English name for it is Atlantic wolffish, also known as seawolf or catfish. They’re ugly, but tasty as hell!
They certainly don’t like being tasty! thanks will keep a watch on the catch my fish lady brings in from the Indian Ocean…
They live in the cold waters of the northern Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, so I doubt you can find them on your local market, but there’s plenty of other tasty fishes in India!
Amazing creatures! Is it not difficult to photograph through the glass?
It can be a bit tricky, because you always have to think about the reflections. The light conditions aren’t the best either and the fishes are constantly on the move. So, the answer to that would be yes.
Cool photos Cardinal! It just made me think of a show we love watching called River Monsters. I think it’s been on for a few years, but it’s new to my wife and I and we’re catching up via Netflix. It sure makes me think twice about swimming in lakes and rivers :s
I haven’t seen that show, but river monsters doesn’t sound like anything I’d like to meet…
Beautiful Images Cardinal!! That glass must have been pretty clean 🙂
Oh yes it was. I guess they must wipe off fatty fingerprints from curious kids fingers there every day!
Well, these fish certainly wouldn’t win any beauty competitions. 😀 Is the first one a Sea Urchin?
That’s correct: it’s a sea urchin. In Norwegian it’s called Kråkebolle, which directly translated into English means ‘crow bun’.
😆
great photos – anemones are a personal fav for me, really really love the photos of the ones you took!
Thank you. I didn’t have the heart to turn them into B&W.
didn’t have time to visit it… awesome pix! 🙂
Thanks. It was an interesting place. I love aquariums!
scary looking 😉
Scary, but tasty!
amazing fishes
I missed this one! A while back I noticed you are great at taking photos of fish, be it dead or alive. I am pleased to see a photo of the little one. I bet he enjoyed his first visit to the seafood museum with his appetite for fish 😉
He was mesmerized and totally loved it! Especially when he saw the big fishes.
It was a true pleasure to take him there. Hopefully I can take him to more seafood museums later.
🙂
