For the Weekly Photo Challenge this week I chose this photo of Mount Pico. I was supposed to post this earlier, but I forgot all about it. The photo was shot during one of my sleepless nights.
“Mount Pico (Portuguese: Montanha do Pico), is a stratovolcano and highest point on the Portuguese island of Pico in the Azores. Further, reaching an altitude of 2,351 metres above sea level, it is more than twice the elevation of any other peak in the Azores, and the tallest mountain in Portugal.” (Wikipedia)
Simply beautiful!
Thanks.
OH WOW! i Love this photo.
BE ENCOURAGED! BE BLESSED!
Thank you Francine
This is dreamy and creamy 🙂 Sleepless nights can turn out so good!!! Thank you for showing Mount Pico in this light. I swear I’ll go there. Beautiful…. a really beautiful shot!!!!
Sleepless nights can be truly awesome 😉
Actually the light is not representative of the reality. I couldn’t actually see the mountain, but I knew it was there. This was around 5 in the morning, it was so dark that I had to shoot several test shots with the ISO settings at max so that I could set the focus.
I would expect 5 am to be already bright in summer :O. You did a marvelous job CG 🙂
LOVE this shot. Thanks for providing another destination to dream about.
My pleasure. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
Wow! Gorgeous shot 🙂
Thanks
Hi Cardinal!!! I think it is a beautiful and elegant shot!!!! Thanks a lot!
I’m the one that should thank you: thanks for leaving a comment.

Marvellous photo.. Splendid!! 😉 I love the “smoke” around the mountain and the city light looks like pearls 😀 Thanks for sharing
Thanks Mariane. It was a fantastic night for shooting and I’m pleased with the results.
What a splendid shot – you really captured an amazing image
Thanks. I also like this photo. I’ll probably make a print and put it on my wall sometime.
this is nice! where was this taken at?
This was shot at an extremely secret location. I’ll never reveal where it is.
wow, i can’t believe you were shooting in the dark! are those lights from homes? this is gorgeous.
Some of them are from homes, but most of them are street lights.
so amazing!
Amazing picture!! Looks like you were awake up into the am- I love the gently illuminated swirling clouds too!
Thank you Kathryn.
I woke up in the middle of the night, so I decided to bring the camera and go for a walk. I always try to shoot at different times when I’m visiting a place (I also do the same when I’m at home).
Lucky you to have caught this so beautifully! I climbed this mountain som eyars ago and saw the beauty from the top too!
Nice. We didn’t actually go to Pico to climb the mountain, but it looks great from a distance too 😀
Well, I didn’t go there to climb either… We were hiking the islands for their beauty and serenity. Some years ago we went back – partly to hike with our children, partly to visit the stray dogs of the capital on the main island.

Incredible image, Cardinal – it doesn’t look real, like a fantasy landscape.
Et vakkert bilde!
Cardinal–I do like the surreal look of those clouds. Quite nice.
The clouds are just phenominal!
The clouds are majestic. For me, the beauty of the photo was seen more because of the clouds. 😀
superb 🙂

A beautiful photo. I was there a few years ago but I never got to see the top of Pico, there was always cloud. So I’m enjoying your photo
I never went to the top either…

Love the swirling clouds under long exposure. The scene looks like Portugal’s own Fujiyama.
Thanks Allan. I was glad that I got this shot. It was very difficult to get the focus right.
