This is the second of two posts with photos taken in Oslo on The National Day of Norway 2012: “Norwegian Constitution Day is the National Day of Norway and is an official national holiday observed on May 17 each year. Among Norwegians, the day is referred to simply as søttende mai (meaning May Seventeenth), Nasjonaldagen (The National Day) or Grunnlovsdagen (The Constitution Day).
The Constitution of Norway was signed at Eidsvoll on May 17 in the year 1814. The constitution declared Norway to be an independent nation.” (Wikipedia)
On the 17th of May we all dress up nice and hit the streets.

Happy Syttende Mai!!!
I’ve been thinking about Norway a lot today. Was hoping they’d beat the Russians in hockey, but it didn’t happen. They were really good though.
While living in Sweden [most of my life], I always admired the Norwegians for really celebrating their national day … we didn’t even have a holiday until a few years ago.
Awesome pictures, both posts!
Thanks Reb. I didn’t watch the ice hockey but heard that we lost 5-2.
The national day in nice. I enjoyed the celebrations downtown with the childrens parade: people all dressed up and looking good.
This was great. Thanks for the history lesson and images.

P.S. the first post has better pictures.

Thank You Angeline. As you can see people are more dressed up in post 1 compared to post 2.
Lovely shots of the celebrations…hope you had a wonderful day 🙂
Yes it was nice: The weather was ok. Mostly sunny but just a little bit cold and a few raindrops. The city center was crowded like Delhi on any given day.
