The Photo Challenge from WordPress this week: This should be a simple challenge for most of you – find a picture of people or things which are together in your picture.
“Share a picture that means TOGETHER to you!”
As you can see this photo is shot in Frognerparken (also called Vigelands Park by tourists & people from out-of-town). The Vigeland Sculpture Park, is what makes this park so famous. The park is the most visited tourist attraction in Norway and it
covers 80 acres (320,000 m2) and features 212 bronze and granite sculptures all designed by Gustav Vigeland.

What a lovely embrace…
Heartwarming… 😉
There’s tremendous closeness, but a sadness and bleakness too.
I agree Jude. This statue has ‘several layers’ and in my opinion it’s a great piece of art. The snow adds a feeling of sadness to the photo.
A stirring image, and it was well lit to keep the background subtle and not totally polarized. Did you do the lighting?
I must admit that I enhanced the background in my digital darkroom by removing some disturbing light pollution that came from some buildings in the far distance (behind the trees). This was done so that the statue wouldn’t lose the center of attention.
I wish I could say that I did the lighting, but the lights are from a nearby lamppost.
I like the embrace of the boy–although it appears sad.
Brilliant. It does stir up some emotions … of sadness, somehow.
I’ve never been to Norway (!), but I had heard about Viegeland but somehow [far back in my mind], I associated it with “jernverk”..
If you ever come to Oslo you should definitely visit Frognerparken were you can find Vigelands statues. Every time I have visitors from abroad (which is rather often), this is one of the places that I show them.
I think ELKEM’s hq is located not too far away from Vigeland’s park, and that’s why I made the association — the memory works in mysterious ways, some times.
Next time I go home, I’ll try to travel around a little more..
Let me know if you come to Oslo and I’ll give you a guided tour 🙂
Loved it , you always come up with the best.
There is togetherness and a hint of sadness in this sculpture, which makes it so captivating.
Dhanyavad Soma-ji: Thank you very much for this nice compliment.
Like I replied to Jude further up: I think that this statue has ‘several layers’.
There is, like you say, togetherness and a hint of sadness, but it also captures the love and care between a father & his child.
The addition of the snow really makes this shot intriguing and draws me in.
Great entry for the week. Seems simple but I am still thinking about mine to come.
Hmmmmm. Yours is just wonderful.
Thanks Ruth. The statue tells a whole story by itself, and then the snow, ice, coldness and lighting adds more drama to the whole scene.
It’s very touching! Exotic!
What an extraordinary shot!
Nice shot…I love the black and white complete with snow. That park is so beautiful. I went there in 1986 but it was fall and there was no snow. A wealth of photos there…
Glad to hear that you’ve been to visit Oslo. I hope you liked it 😀
I’m born in Oslo and I have ambivalent feelings regarding this city, but this park has charming qualities that change with the seasons.
I liked Norway a lot. I also went to the Munch museum. I went on a tour that went to Copenhagen, Oslo, Bergen, and ended up in Sweden.
This imagery stirs up such emotion. Wonderfully captured!
Lovely haunting and emotional shot.
Thanks for sharing this image that I would otherwise never know about or the area.
Thanks Mr. Diffley. I can post more photos from this park later. I’ve got quite a few photos from there.
What a beautiful and intriguing image!
So much to see in this photo. I hadn’t even noticed the trees until you mentioned them in a reply above. What is that dark stain down their sides? It almost looks like blood.
The brighter areas are the frozen parts. During winter, as the temperatures change, the moist freeze, leaving these patterns and stains on the statues.

Väldigt fin bild, verkar lite sorgen på något sätt. Kanske är det de svartvita som ger sken av det. Ha en bra söndag!
Takk Britten. Ønsker deg en riktig fin uke!
I love the drama of the darkness and the fluffy white snow resting on the sculpture. It’s very graphic. Beautiful picture.
Thank you Anette. The snow almost emphasizes a feeling of solitude.
I agree with Anette. Love the drama of black and white photos.
BE ENCOURAGED! BE BLESSED!
Amazing. That statue is so real.
It’s indeed a amazing park in Oslo, and you cold use hour by hour in Vingeland Park and the sculptur part named ‘Frognerparken’ – in rest between business meeting in the town, I have used a lot of time there a enjoy it… 😉
It’s definitely recommended to visit this beautiful place… 😉
I’m glad you enjoyed the park. In the summer there’s always a lot of people there sunbathing, enjoying life & BBQ.
Maybe I will post more pictures from the Frogner Park later and also write a little bit about the history of the park.
Yes a good idea – as born jutland’an (Danish), I have had many wonderful trips to Norway – love the country both in winter, summer, private or business) – and all I hear is going to Oslo, I recommend them Vingeland Park… 😉
Nice Cardinal!
