We’re on our honeymoon, we got married 5 years ago but had to save up money before going on this trip. Today is also my birthday and what better place to celebrate than here? So, where are we?

This remarkably wild & beautiful country appears harsh & inhospitable, but on this densely populated island, located just south of the polar circle, you can witness the relationship between man, nature & wildlife. It may seem hard, if not impossible, for both man & beast.

Man or beast?

The huge resources of geothermal power provides heat & energy, and the powerful glacier rivers some of the cleanest water in the world.
The surrounding sea is amongst the richest fishing grounds in the world.

But this land of magical contrast can also be bitterly cruel & massively destructive, something it’s hardy inhabitants are keenly aware of. Yet despite this precarious existence of life on the edge, the inhabitants have a deep & spiritual attachment for their country, and few would choose to live anywhere else. Far out in the North Atlantic Ocean, just south of the arctic circle you’ll find this remote volcanic island.

This is the last unknown frontier in Europe to have been discovered & settled by man, this was the land known to the Greeks as Ultima Thule, a place beyond the borders of the known world, where it was said land, air & water all converged.

More posts & pictures will come from this magical place, but first you’ll have to excuse me: I have a journey to enjoy!
