Weekly Photo Challenge: Mine

I was wondering what happened to the Weekly Photo Challenge last friday: for many of us bloggers it’s the highlight of the week, where we get to see a lot of interesting photos and interpretations of the theme from fellow bloggers. As a social online event the WPC is something that connects bloggers and can often make you discover new blogs that you might wouldn’t have discovered otherwise. It turned out that the new WPC-post was scheduled by Sara Rosso and that it didn’t fire off as planned because of some technical glitch. Finally it’s here and the theme this week is “Mine”.

“Mine. Is there a place, object, or view that’s entirely yours, or you’re a bit selfish or possessive about? Is it a feeling you feel when you look at the photo, or perhaps an unwillingness to share? I get rather possessive about that first cup of coffee in the morning. It’s definitely mine and I want it all to myself. Share a picture that means MINE to you!” – Sara Rosso, WordPress

Here’s a photo that represents “Mine”:

My guitar: a semi acoustic Morgan.

What is your thoughts about this photo and/or about the WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge?
I would love to hear your opinion.

Other Bloggers Interpretations:

Edit: Some of you have heard this before, but here’s a clip of me playing guitar with my friend. I composed the tune while my friend Sjur made the rhythm. It’s called “A Tune For Mom”.

    • Thanks Teepee.
Hehe, your nick is awesome, it reminds me of a Beavis & Butthead clip :D

  2. Oh, I’m so jealous – I can see why this is what you chose! ;)
Many thanks for the pingback, too!

    October 1, 2012 at 21:50

    • Thanks, I liked to read about your glasses because I can relate to it. I used to have glasses, but did lazer surgery: for several weeks after I kept looking for my glasses when I woke up in the morning :D

      October 1, 2012 at 22:07

      • I unfortunately have problems with my eyes laser surgery (and even contacts) can’t fully correct – Now I’m jealous about that, too! ;-)

        October 2, 2012 at 00:28

      • So what now – people with glasses ‘always’ forget them one or another place – what do you forget now..? ‘big smile’

I like the Weekly Photo Challenge for the same reason as you – enjoy really to see other bloggers post on the themes – WHEN they remember the challenge from WP… ‘hahaha’

  3. That is a beautiful photo, and an excellent interpretation.

    October 1, 2012 at 21:52

  4. A very intimate view of something that is only yours :) Great DoF, CG….

    October 1, 2012 at 21:53

    • Thanks Paula. I played around with the settings and tried out different positions before I ended up on this shot.

      October 1, 2012 at 22:16

  5. I like it!!! Is it hand made? Love the perspective…
    Thanks for naming my blog…
    Have a nice day!

    October 1, 2012 at 21:56

    • I guess someone’s hands must have made it, but not mine! It would be nice to be able to make your own guitar, but when it comes to working with wood I’m afraid that I’m far from a handy man…

      October 1, 2012 at 22:20

      • Hello Cardinal,
I missed the tune the other day…
        I like it very much!!!!

        October 3, 2012 at 13:56

    • Thanks again ilargia64 :)
I’m glad you like my tune!

      October 3, 2012 at 14:15

  6. Love the point of view of your guitar. I agree, the WPC is a great way to see other’s interpretations of the challenge, some wonderful photography to be found every week.

    October 1, 2012 at 21:56

    • Thanks Angeline. It’s also a great way to discover new blogs. The only problem is that I’ve found so many blogs now that it’s impossible to keep up with them all!
(probabably a lot of bloggers feel the same way)

      October 1, 2012 at 22:23

  7. This is the first time I see a macro of guitar strings … I like seeing fresh views.. I am glad you experimented… you guitar was worth the effort :)

    October 1, 2012 at 22:19

    • Thanks for the compliment Paula. Sometimes it pays off to experiment, even with ordinary things such as a guitar.

      October 1, 2012 at 22:41

  8. love the picture, and can relate to guitars and their shapes and sounds…;)

    October 1, 2012 at 22:28

    • Apropos guitar: I was planning to ask you if you have some clips online where you’re playing guitar? You mentioned that you play in another post earlier and I was planning to ask you, but I totally forgot about it.

      October 1, 2012 at 22:38

      • I have a few badly recorded songs on Soundcloud, did have Myspace but I could not play my own tunes so stopped,,if you want ear ache I will put a link here for you…http://soundcloud.com/you/tracks let me know what you think, remember the recordings not top notch..

        October 2, 2012 at 00:00

        • The link doesn’t work, it’s for your login site.

          October 2, 2012 at 09:04

        • Sorry about that try this one http://soundcloud.com/gerry-ainger

          October 2, 2012 at 12:23

          • Thanks Gerry. The sound isn’t that bad.
Just listened to “Need You Now” and the playing and singing is definitely good.

            October 2, 2012 at 17:47

          • Thank you for this and yes they are all my compositions, have more but need some work, actually these need a little.. however thank you…

            October 2, 2012 at 19:37

        • Are they all your songs, or is it cover versions? I left your playlist on and went into the kitchen. After a while my wife said:
“This is nice music. Who is it?”
          “It’s Gerry”
          “Gerry who?”
          “Gerry my blogger friend”

  9. mostlymonochrome

Mine? Why couldn’t they pick something simple like ‘cars’? I’m going to have to think this week.

    October 1, 2012 at 22:40

    • Hehe, I struggled too, but you can always post a picture of your car (if you have one of course).

      October 1, 2012 at 22:42

  10. Your song accompanies the photo perfectly, very intimate. The photo of your guitar emits the essence of acoustic, The soft hum of light dancing just beyond focus. I can almost feel the strings vibrate and smell the wood.

    October 1, 2012 at 23:37

  11. Lovely music clip with the photo. Thank you for sharing my post, as well. ~ Kat

    October 2, 2012 at 02:37

    • Thanks Kat. Glad you like the tune. I enjoyed the versatile topics in your post.

      October 2, 2012 at 10:20

  12. Love the feel of the photo! And “A tune for Mom” is so sweet and melodic. You’re so talented. If I ever learn a new instrument, it’d definitely be the guitar. But we’ll see! I’m looking to pick up piano again, but it’s much less portable. haha

    October 2, 2012 at 03:16

    • If I ever learn a new instrument it’ll definitely be piano! Actually we just talked about it a few days ago that it would have been cool to have a piano, but as I already told you in your post about stand mixers: we can’t even fit a stand mixer into our apartment!

      October 2, 2012 at 10:25

  13. Very nice! Love it :)

    October 2, 2012 at 03:18

  14. Sharp and unfocused at the same time (referring to the shot, not your musicianship!).

    October 2, 2012 at 03:29

    • Thanks Jeni. It’s always nice to get compliments for my music.

  17. I love the nice bokeh. It’s almost like strings in motion. Very softly vibrant. :)

    October 2, 2012 at 07:13

    • Thanks for the compliments Pixitales, I like your abstract interpretation of the theme. Very nice.

  20. WPC is a brilliant way for us all to connect and discover each other – considering that most of the time I work in a relative vacuum, since starting my blog I have gotten a great deal of positive, constructive feedback (albeit on random, non-work related subjects). Not only is this gratifying but it acts as encouragement to keep on keeping on – this is probably the case with alot of others out there as well. I love the abstract quality of your guitar photo for this challenge (and how your piece resonates with the challenge); music really is a personal thing but its intangible qualities are those that reach out and affect others. Well done.

    October 2, 2012 at 15:20

    • Well written comment. I totally agree.
Thanks for the compliments on the music and photo.

  29. I missed this lovely portrait of your guitar! The photo reveals just how you think of her! The perspective is intuitive and very personal. I like this very much.
I am unable to load your Guest portrait for some reason. I got the email and clicked on the link. Says it does not exist???

    October 3, 2012 at 22:10

    • Thanks George. I’m glad you like the perspective I chose for this photo.

I figured Mr Guest wouldn’t mind me making a photoshopped version of one of his portraits, but he did mind and asked me to delete it. His photo – his rules, so the photo is gone now.

  31. Beautiful photo and music. At first glance, I thought the photo was an abstract painting. Then I took a closer look and saw the guitar. By the way, my husband also plays the guitar. :)

    October 4, 2012 at 05:51

    • Thanks, I’m glad you like the photo and the music, and it’s also good to hear that your husband plays guitar: it’s always nice with some live music in the home.

Guess I should open a soundcloud account ot something, so that people can download it if they want to.
